Abstract
In order to develop problem-solving abilities in students, it is important to get them to acquire a lot of means through laboratory experiments based upon understanding the theories and procedures. In this study, we introduced Computer Chemistry, which consists of safety education, molecular modeling, and numerical simulation using a freeware Maxima, in a class named Fundamental Engineering Laboratory for the first-year students. We also introduced a point system, advanced problems using Maxima and/or Excel solver and instructions for the use of software, such as Word/Writer and Excel/Calc, on the day following the experiment, in a class named Experimental Analytical Chemistry for the 2nd-year students. We also improved the content in the Information Processing I for the 2nd-year students.
