Abstract
The preventive effects of two polysaccharide fractions prepared from Hypsizigus marmoreus and various glucans on mouse contact dermatitis were investigated by an animal disease model of oxazolone-induced mouse ear edema in this study.@The yields of two fractions obtained, Fr.1 and Fr.2, were 65.0%(w/w) and 0.7%(w/w), respectively.@Fr.1 and Fr.2 contained 62.6%(w/w) of insoluble dietary fibers and 83.6%(w/w) of soluble polysaccharides, respectively.@The oral administration of these fractions at a dose of 250mg/kg body weight, as well as their percutaneous administration at a dose of 0.10mg/ear, suppressed mouse contact dermatitis. The commercial indigestible glucans, two ?-glucans (barley ?-glucan and curdlan) and an ?-glucan (pullulan), also suppressed mouse contact dermatitis in cases of oral administration at doses of 200 and/or 250mg/kg body weight and percutaneous administration at a dose of 0.10mg/ear.@Therefore, the major active components in two polysaccharide fractions prepared from H. marmoreus are thought to be insoluble and soluble polysaccharides that are indigestible in animal bodies.
